A NOTE FROM ALEX’S PARENTS
Dear Friends and Family,
For many years, we talked about adopting …someday ….
In April 2007 that “someday” started to become a reality when we heard about “Losha ” (Alexsey Olegovich Kharlamov), a Russian orphan who had been brought to the United Stated for medical treatment through the Hope Project. This is an organization that helps children who can be benefited by prosthetics. To facilitate his mobility, both his legs were amputated above the knee.
However, Losha was a “mistake”! His name became attached to another child’s paperwork, and while he is not able to wear prosthetics, we believe God brought him specially to us. Though there are many adjustments, we are delighted to announce that by God’s grace, we are in process of adopting Aleksey from an orphanage, for handicapped children, in Penza, Russia.
We hope you will learn to love him as much as we do. His American name will be Alexey Kharl Foster - (he chose to be called Alex, because that is what Dad calls him). Alex was 11 years old when he came to be with us in May 2007. In October, he celebrated his first “Happy Birthday” ever, and was so excited he could hardly contain himself. It was simple but so much fun !!!
Snow has also been tremendously exciting, and Alex would much rather be scooting around in it than learning phonics! School at this point, since learning English, reading, simple math and adjusting to family life are our major objectives.
Communication has improved considerably since May. Alex really can’t help himself, with Mom, Dad, and seven siblings who talk, talk, talk!!! He also loves to talk, which has been an asset. Our one regret is that Alex is losing his Russian much too quickly! We hope he will pick it up again as a language study, in time, and through visits with Russian speakers in our area.
The adoption process is well under way. We have completed medicals by 8 specialists and are being issued a court date for March 11, to finalize the adoption in Russia. We plan to leave Feb. 28th. This involves traveling to Moscow with Alex, as well as to the region where the orphanage is located. It will be about a three-week stay.
The Bible has much to say about the care of orphans. As a matter of fact, it is at the heart of Bible faith: “Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: To visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world” (James 1:27). WE see Alexey’s trouble as real. If he remains in Russia until 16, he will likely be placed in an insane asylum. He is only one of many, but he is one, and is providentially in our home and hearts. We are committed to helping him. IF you would like to help us - pray !!!!!
